Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Coolbane Boy in the Kilbeggan 17:45 and Timetochill 17:30 at Uttoxeter. Compare odds and bet.
Uttoxeter stages a decent novices’ chase on Saturday evening, in which Timetochill (5:30) is taken to make a winning debut over fences for trainer Kelly Morgan.
A Listed bumper winner, she won twice over hurdles last season, before running much better than her finishing position would suggest at the Cheltenham Festival. The daughter of Scorpion travelled very strongly that day and probably found the 2m1f on soft ground stretching her stamina. A mare with plenty of pace, she will appreciate the good ground, and although the opposition looks quite strong, the race could be run to suit (looks to be plenty of pace on) and she receives a handy 7lbs sex-allowance. If she is wound-up for this return (a slight concern given how the stable’s Cuban Sun ran earlier in the week) she could be up to taking this.
Northumberland Plate runner-up Australis looks capable of landing a big staying handicap and he runs in the Runnymede Handicap at Ascot. Up another 6lbs for his Newcastle second, the concern with him is that he has yet to win on the turf and his form is much better on the all-weather.
Therefore, the day’s second selection comes from over in Ireland, where Coolbane Boy (5:45) can win the extended 2m3f maiden hurdle at Kilbeggan, for Liam Burke.
The five-year-old shaped with promise in a couple of maidens last season before he won a bumper at Thurles, and he made an encouraging return to action at Gorwan last month. The longer trip and slightly easier ground should both help, and given that he has been handed an opening mark of 114, he will be worth monitoring going forward as that looks a shade lenient.
Saturday’s selections:
5:45 Kilbeggan – Coolbane Boy; 13/8 BetVictor
5:30 Uttoxeter – Timetochill; 5/1 Bet365
