PABLO ESCOBARR (3.40) can give William Haggas another big-race scalp by scooping the Sky Bet Ebor Handicap at York.
The Newmarket-based Yorkshireman has a terrific record on the Knavesmire and his four-year-old Pablo Escobarr possesses a progressive profile. He accounted for smart Group-rated Desert Encounter at Glorious Goodwood and could be even better served by the step up to 1m 6f.
Ante-post favourite Fujaira Prince returned from a 362-day absence to hack up by almost four lengths at Royal Ascot and a 9lb rise doesn’t put him out of things. Haggas also fields Monica Sheriff , with the filly defending a record of five straight wins. Soft ground is her forte. Euchen Glen made all to land the John Smith’s Cup here two years ago and is a lively outsider. Significant rain would boost the prospects of Pondus, Trueshan and True Self.
LORD GLITTERS (1.50) bids to repeat his 2018 success in the Group 3 Strensall Stakes, a cracking start to Ebor day.
The popular grey ran another fine race here last month when third to Aspetar in the Group 2 York Stakes and he probably has a class edge over his rivals. Zabeel Prince flopped at Leopardstown when sent off 5-4 favourite last month but was good enough to bag the Earl Of Sefton Stakes at Newmarket last April. Epic Hero is interesting stepping up in trip and has been a whisper for the race. Mark Johnston’s Dark Vision has been a model of consistency and is no back number along with Pogo and mudlark Miss O’Connor.
KIPPS (2.25) has threatened to land a major handicap this summer and he can step up to the plate in the extended 1m 5f Melrose Handicap.
After chasing home Hukum at close quarters in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot, Kipps was fitted with blinkers for his next start at Newmarket but they never had the galvanising effect envisaged. Fourth spot behind Zabeel Champion over an inadequate ten furlongs was still a creditable effort and Kipps will welcome this longer distance.
Favourite Moon is closely matched with Kipps on a line through Subjectivity and has been trading as market leader through the week. Numerous others can be given chances, with the likes of Midnights Legacy and A Star Above sure to have their supporters.
SAFE VOYAGE (3.00) met trouble in running when fourth to Space Blues in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes, finishing on the heels of placed horses Duke Of Hazzard and Escobar. Safe Voyage had earlier set a new course record at Epsom on Derby Day and he represents a bit of value against probable warm favourite One Master.
One Master has been a super mare for the Haggas team and she showed plenty of grit to squeeze home at Goodwood. San Donato has twice had the misfortune to run into magnificent Mohaather, at Ascot and Goodwood, and should be on the premises.
