Paul Ferguson two selections for us on Wednesday; Siskin in the Goodwood 3.15 and Galvin in the Galway 6.45.
The Qatar Sussex Stakes on Thursday looks an absolute cracker, with Queen Anne winner Circus Maximus and recent Summer Mile winner Mohaather heading the challenge for the older horses. There was no denying that the latter was very impressive last time – and regular readers will know that I am a big fan of his – but Siskin (3:15) also looked good when winning the Irish 2,000 Guineas and he is fancied to maintain his 100% record. Despite not getting the clearest of paths, he burst through to win well, and he is favoured over Newmarket winner Kameko. I really hope the race delivers, as it could be one of the races of the season thus far.
Over at Galway, the market looks about right in the Galway Plate, with the right horses towards the head of the betting. Easy Game is a Graded performer and Early Doors has the potential to be much better than his chase mark, but preference is for Galvin (6:45) who ran a cracker in the novices’ handicap at Cheltenham and won easily on his most recent start.
He will need to jump better, but he again promises to be well-suited by the way this race will be run (travelled well at Cheltenham) and the slightly longer trip shouldn’t be a problem. At the time of writing, both SkyBet and Hills are offering 11-2 and are paying 6 places.
In the concluding bumper, keep an eye on Mahons Glory who shaped really well when runner-up on debut. The winner has since joined David Pipe, so it will be interesting to see how the form works out.
Wednesday’s selections:
3:15 Glorious Goodwood – Siskin; 9/4 William Hill
6:45 Galway Festival – Galvin; 9/2 Paddy Power
