Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Future Investment in the Newmarket 12.10 and Mohaather in the Ascot 3.15. Compare odds and bet.
All dressed up with nowhere to go Mohaather (3:15) got no sort of run in the Queen Anne at Royal Ascot recently, but he is fancied to land the Summer Mile on Saturday.
An impressive winner of the Greenham on good-to-soft ground last April, he remains very lightly-raced and open to considerable improvement at four. I was slightly concerned about the trip (on easy ground) for him at the Royal meeting, but switching to the shorter/sharper round course is likely to help in that respect, and he can land his first Group 2.
It’s July Cup day at Newmarket, where Commonwealth Cup winner Golden Horde looks a worthy favourite in the big race, but it is the opening handicap over 1m4f which interests me most from a punting perspective.
Whilst there has to be a chance that Yuri Gagarin ends up contesting races at a higher level, his latest victory hasn’t work out particularly well, and he is sure to be priced up on reputation (hopefully, he will make the market).
Country is a four-year-old who I like and think he a decent race in him at some point, but Future Investment (12:10) looks fairly solid here, and it is hoped that can be backed at an each-way price.
Runner-up on his reappearance, he shaped reasonably well again behind Laafy, who went on to run well (off 9lbs higher) behind Deja at Haydock last Sunday. Ralph Beckett’s four-year-old is just a pound higher than when runner-up on reappearance, and the trip/ground shouldn’t pose him any problems.
