The winner of a bumper at Ayr and a maiden hurdle at Wincanton, Nickolson (2:00) returns from 143 days off the track on Sunday, and is fancied to maintain his unbeaten record.
Olly Murphy’s six-year-old should appreciate this more galloping track and he is bred to cope with the soft ground. Trincomalee was a good winner here over 2m5f last time and is respected, but Nickolson can take this and book his ticket to Aintree.
In the concluding bumper, the penalised pairing set a good standard, but ready preference is for Your Darling (5:10) who beat a subsequent winner in taking fashion in heavy ground at Newbury on debut. Given the post-race comments, the five-year-old is clearly held in very high-regard, and he is another who could be destined for the Grand National meeting if all goes well here.
