THE Lincoln Trial at Wolverhampton serves notice that the Flat turf season is looming and FOX POWER (1.35) has the services of Silvestre De Sousa. A 9lb swing in the weights should enable Richard Hannon’s colt to reverse form with recent course and distance conqueror Via Serendipity. Front-runner Red Bond will ensure a good gallop to chase down but a 13lb hike in his official rating on the strength of a wide-margin Newcastle victory at the end of January could put the brakes on his progress.
CONCIERGE (2.10) gave De Sousa a winner over course and distance 12 days ago and an action replay is on the cards off a 6lb higher mark. Trainer David Loughnane has enjoyed a productive winter on the all-weather and Concierge scored with a bit in hand when coming fast and late to chop down Reeves. Last year’s winner Desert Doctor is fit from a spell racing in Meydan and should be thereabouts.
CLAN LEGEND (1.55) won’t be inconvenienced by the heavy ground at Ayr. Nick Alexander’s gelding, a winner at Kelso in December, finished third in this 2m handicap chase last year and the stable fired in a double at Carlisle on Thursday. Irish raider Drumconnor Lad beat a previous winner in Batcio at Leopardstown on Boxing Day and rates a danger along with recent Musselburgh scorer Ardera Cross. Tonto’s Spirit could manage only fifth in this event 12 months ago and looks held.
JESSIEMAC (2.30) is a dual winner at Ayr this season for local trainer Ian Duncan and she has first-rate prospects in the 2m 5f mares’ handicap hurdle. She returned from a 68-day break to chase home Teescomponentstrig in a field of 13 runners at Newcastle in January and seems sure to give her running.
THE CON MAN (3.05) can provide title-chasing Brian Hughes with a winner in the 2m 4f handicap hurdle. The seven-year-old tasted success at Kelso in January and was a respectable fifth in better company at Ascot last time when sent off favourite. This is slightly less demanding. Nicky Richards is another trainer in form and Better Getalong, a previous winner here over two miles on heavy ground, posted a solid third to southern raider Portrush Ted over this longer distance in January.
