Paul Ferguson two selections from Ascot for us on Saturday; Sporting John at 1.15 and Red Indian at 2.25. Compare odds and bet.
If Ascot beats the weather SPORTING JOHN (1:15) is fancied to beat Master Debonair in the opening novices’ hurdle, for Philip Hobbs.
Unbeaten in a Point-to-Point and two novice hurdles at Exeter, he should appreciate the step up in distance and can book his ticket to the Ballymore at Cheltenham with success here. The pair are both engaged at Exeter on Sunday, too (also very much at threat to the weather) and Sporting John would receive 5lbs if they end up meeting there instead.
Later on the card RED INDIAN (2:25) should go close in the Listed handicap chase, following a really encouraging return to action in the Peter Marsh at Haydock. He jumped to the front – travelling strongly – at the last down the far side, and shaped as though he would improve for the run.
The slightly shorter trip is in his favour and the deep ground won’t pose any problems, so everything looks in place for a bold show.
Saturday’s selections:
1:15 Ascot – Sporting John; 5/4 Paddy Power
2:25 Ascot – Red Indian; 4/1 Betvictor
