Wetherby stages a cracking novices’ hurdle on Wednesday, in which RIBBLE VALLEY (13:50) can strike for Nicky Richards and Brian Hughes.
A dual bumper winner last term, the son of Westerner bolted up in a weak race on hurdling debut and although this represents a much stiffer assignment, he is a horse who I believe could develop into a classy novice.
Both Sir Valentine and Proschema are respected, but it is hoped that Ribble Valley can take this rise in class in his stride.
