The Highflyer Novices’ Chase looks a decent event at Warwick on Wednesday, in which MISTER FISHER (2:10) is fancied to make a winning debut over fences for Nicky Henderson.
Only eighth in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle in March, he finished seventh when sent off favourite for the valuable Swinton Hurdle last time, although he raced close to a very strong pace and also made a fairly serious error down the far side. His effort can, therefore, be marked up and he seems at his best on a flat track, such as this. A Grade 2 winning novice hurdler (beat the smart Bright Forecast at Haydock), he has the physique to do even better as a chaser and can make the perfect start.
It should be said, he will need to fence well (as will they all), should the front-running four-year-old Torpillo tear off in front, in receipt of the four-year-old allowance. This should prove to be an informative event.
The Philip Hobbs-trained Flinck (2:40) is of interest half-an-hour later, in the 0-120 handicap hurdle, with the slightly shorter trip a positive.
The five-year-old showed improved form on his reappearance at this track last month, when travelling really well for a long way. In fact, he was just about last off the bridle having raced a shade keenly, so the drop back in distance makes sense. An opening mark of 115 looks more than fair and if he can hurdle a little more fluently on this occasion (wasn’t great last time, particularly late on) he looks more than capable of going very close.
Wednesday’s selections:
2:10 Warwick – Mister Fisher; 15/8 William Hill
2:40 Warwick – Flinck; 11/4 William Hill
