Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Good Birthday in the Beverley 2.05 and Jubiloso in the Sandown 3.00. Compare odds and bet.
Unlucky when meeting trouble in running at Glorious Goodwood, Jubiloso (3:00) is fancied to gain compensation and land the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes at Sandown this afternoon.
Sir Michael Stoute’s Shamardal filly had earlier finished third in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes, which came on the back of impressive wins at Chelmsford and Newbury. Back on a more conventional track and in a smaller field, she will hopefully enjoy a better passage and she has the best form on offer.
Earlier on the card, Country is respected as he goes in search of the four-timer, but has more on his plate on this occasion, so the day’s other selection comes from Beverley, in the shape of Good Birthday (2:05) who also contests a competitive-looking handicap.
Andrew Balding’s colt finished fifth in a strong handicap at Newmarket’s July meeting and I actually think he could be a bit better than that bare result, as he was forced to challenge out wide. His earlier third in Newbury’s London Gold Cup reads really well, with him finishing just a length off the classy Headman (since won two Group races in France) in third. He split Sinjaari and Forest Of Dean (won two valuable handicaps recently), with another couple of subsequent winners in behind. A reproduction of that effort should see him go very close, off a 5lbs higher mark.
Saturday’s selections:
2:05 Beverley – Good Birthday; 5/2 Bet365
3:00 Sandown – Jubiloso; 10/11 Paddy Power
