Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Victory Day in the Ascot 16:00 and Country 16:05 at Redcar. Compare odds and bet.
It could be a big day for the William Haggas stable on Saturday, with a number of interesting runners, including Addeybb who ought to relish the easing ground in the Rose of Lancaster Stakes at Haydock.
Of more interest from a punting perspective is Victory Day (4:00) who runs in the concluding race from Ascot, the Shergar Cup Sprint.
The Bated Breath gelding only just failed in his bid to pass every rival in the valuable Pavers Foundation Catherine Memorial Sprint Handicap at York in mid-June, finishing really strongly and going down by just a neck at the line. Despite a 6lbs rise, he looks more than capable of landing a nice prize and the smaller field here will help with the hold-up tactics.
Up at Redcar – where Haggas boasts a 42% strike-rate during the past five seasons – Country (4:05) is fancied to land the 1m2f handicap, under Liam Jones.
The Dubawi gelding shed his maiden tag here in April, before following up in effortless fashion at Ripon, where he beat one of today’s rivals with ease. A strong-traveller, he was a non-runner in a deeper race at Glorious Goodwood last Friday (ground too quick) and this looks a more realistic race in which to attempt the hat-trick.
Saturday’s selections:
4:00 Ascot – Victory Day; 13/8 Bet365
4:05 Redcar – Country; 5/4 BetVictor
