Fergie’s Thursday racing treble

Paul Ferguson has three selections for us on Thursday; Sinjaari 13:50, Constantinople 15:00 both at Goodwood and Band Of Outlaws 16:55 at Galway. Compare odds and bet.

Day three at Glorious Goodwood gets underway with another red-hot handicap, in which I am more than prepared to give another chance to Sinjaari (1:50) who had no chance, with the route he took in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot.

William Haggas’ Camelot colt had earlier bumped into Cocked Hat winner Private Secretary on his reappearance, before winning a strong maiden at Windsor. Runner-up to subsequent Group 2 winner, Headman, in the London Gold Cup, he looks more than capable of winning a valuable prize such as this, before heading into pattern company himself.

Runner-up in that King George V Stakes was Constantinople (3:00) who can win with Qatar Gordon Stakes, for Aidan O’Brien.

The winner of the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes on his penultimate start, the Galileo colt travelled like the best horse (and carried top-weight) at Ascot, where he would have appreciated a lead for longer. Since that fine effort, I have felt that he could easily be a genuine St Leger candidate and if that is to be the case, he probably needs to be winning this trial.

Over at the Galway Festival, it is Galway Hurdle day and I like two in the feature, those being Band Of Outlaws (4:55) and Chosen Mate. I certainly wouldn’t put anyone off splitting stakes on the pair and I was favouring the latter from a price perspective, but I really think the race will suit Band Of Outlaws, whose connections have surely had this race in mind for some time.

Given that he receives a handy 5lbs four-year-old allowance, he is effectively now just 1lb higher than when running out a most impressive winner of the Fred Winter at Cheltenham. The strong pace is sure to suit and provided he gets some luck in running (often needed around here) I think he will be right in the mix.

If you would prefer to back one at a bigger price, Chosen Mate also brings Grade 1 novice hurdle form to the table, courtesy of his fifth behind Reserve Tank in the Mersey at Aintree, on Grand National day. He isn’t short of pace, so the drop in trip should suit (again, he is likely to appreciate the strong pace) and he warmed up for this by running in a maiden at Leopardstown just three weeks ago.

Thursday’s selections:
1:50 Glorious Goodwood – Sinjaari; 4/1 Bet365
3:00 Glorious Goodwood – Constantinople; 9/4 Ladbrokes
4:55 Galway Festival – Band Of Outlaws (Chosen Mate); 4/1 Paddy Power
