Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Wednesday; Dubawi Fifty in the 13:50 and Durston 14:25 both at Goodwood. Compare odds and bet.
If there is a horse in training who deserves to land a valuable staying handicap, a strong case can be made for Dubawi Fifty (1:50) being that horse. Consistent in such events for a couple of seasons now, Karen McLintock’s six-year-old gets the vote in the Unibet Goodwood Handicap on Wednesday.
Fourth in the Chester Cup and the Ascot Stakes last season, he returned to action in last month’s Northumberland Plate and once again ran a blinder, only getting collared in the dying strides. He proved at Ascot last year that he stays this sort of trip and despite another 2lbs rise in the weights, he looks set to give another good account of himself under Danny Tudhope.
The Unibet Handicap – a three-year-old event over the best part of 1m4f – looks a really good race, in which a case can be made for several of the 14-strong field.
There are plenty of improving young middle-distance performers lining up here, but the one I am siding with is the hat-trick seeking Durston (2:25), who impressed me at Doncaster (where he beat a subsequent winner in the shape of Themaxwecan) and even more so when coming from last to first to win at Chester. That latest success came on soft ground, so any further rain would probably enhance his chance and both selections are worth backing each-way.
Wednesday’s selections:
1:50 Glorious Goodwood – Dubawi Fifty; 6/1 William Hill
2:25 Glorious Goodwood – Durston; 13/2 betfair
