Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Thursday; Masar in the Newmarket 3.25 and Corncrake in the Doncaster 4.25. Compare odds and bet.
The July meeting gets underway at Newmarket on Thursday, where last year’s Derby winner Masar (3:35) is fancied to reverse Royal Ascot form with Mirage Dancer, in the Princess Of Wales’s Stakes.
Off the track for more than a year (since last year’s Derby), Charlie Appleby’s four-year-old stumbled badly leaving the stalls in the Hardwicke Stakes and he probably raced a shade keener than ideal on his belated return. He came wide with his challenge up the straight, but his effort levelled out, suggesting that he would come on for the outing.
He has just over 3 lengths to find with Mirage Dancer (who was beaten in this race when favourite 12 months ago) and with that run under his belt, he can turn the tables on Sir Michael Stoute’s five-year-old.
Elsewhere, I am keen to see how Hamish fares in the novice event at Newbury – as I think William Haggas’ Windsor winner has a bright future – but I suspect he will be quite short, whilst Corncrake (4:25) is fancied to complete the quickfire hat-trick at Doncaster.
Richard Hannon’s grey got off the mark at Haydock before defying a 5lbs rise in the weights at Nottingham on Saturday evening. The Mastercraftsman colt powered home to score by 4 lengths and gets in here under a 6lb penalty and is 5lbs ahead of the handicapper, having been put up 11lbs (to 84) on Tuesday.
Thursday’s selections:
3:35 Newmarket – Masar; 11/10 William Hill
4:25 Doncaster – Corncrake; 11/8 William Hill
