THE TIN MAN (3.00) has been a stable stalwart for James Fanshawe and his senior sprinter can make a triumphant return to Newbury by landing the Bet365 Hackwood Stakes.

On his only previous visit to the track the seven-year-old mopped up this event in 2016 and the gelding has been quite sparingly campaigned in the interim. The Tin Man found the company too hot when a creditable sixth to Blue Point in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and should have too much class for his rivals.

VENTURA REBEL (3.40) faces 26 rivals in the Weatherbys Super Sprint but Richard Fahey’s colt has a fair bit up his sleeve on official figures. His second to A’Ali in the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot sets the bar high and Fahey may also hit the frame with his filly Mighty Spirit, sixth to Raffle Prize in the Queen Mary Stakes before an excellent second at Beverley.

The two-mile handicap sees the return to action of runaway 2018 Cesarewitch winner WITHHOLD (2.25) and it will be interesting to see how the betting market reacts to his first race on home soil in more than a year. His sole UK outing last year came in the Northumberland Plate at Newcastle when making all to score readily. Withhold has had a wind operation and Roger Charlton has found Tony Bloom’s stayer a good opportunity if back to his best.

He is opposed by this year’s Northumberland Plate winner Carnwennan, seeking his fourth straight win for Charlie Fellowes, while the Grand Visir landed a significant gamble in the Ascot Stakes.

FOX CHAIRMAN (1.50) endured a torrid time of it in the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot before finding some clear daylight too late to catch Sangarius. That was only his third career start and Silvestre De Sousa should enjoy a smoother passage in the Bet365 Handicap.

It won’t be plain sailing if Pondus can bounce back to form over this shorter trip after fading into sixth behind Japan in the King Edward VII Stakes at the royal fixture. If the ground remains fast that would also bring First Nation into the equation at decent odds.

At Newmarket, INDEED (3.50) would benefit from a few showers and is a knocking each-way bet at around 6-1. The top weight chased home Chatez in the Newbury Spring Cup and beat quite a strong field over 1m 2f at Chelmsford City. He remains lightly raced and is improving.
