ADVERTISE (4.40) gave Frankie Dettori one of his high-profile successes at Royal Ascot and the deadly duo can bag the Group 1 Darley July Cup at Newmarket.
Advertised was galvanised by the application of blinkers when scything through the pack in the Commonwealth Cup and the headgear is unsurprisingly retained by trainer Martyn Meade. Bookmakers are finding it difficult splitting Advertise and Sir Michael Stoute’s Dream Of Dreams, a fast-finishing second to Blue Point in the Diamond Jubilee at the royal meeting.
Ten Sovereigns spearheads a three-pronged Aidan O’Brien attack but he disappointed (fourth) when well-touted for the Commonwealth Cup. Throw in the likes of solid yardsticks, Limato, Brando and Cape Byron, and the race is set up for a cracking finish.
YEAR OF THE TIGER (2.55) is O’Brien’s sole representative in the bet365 Superlative Stakes. His Galileo colt could manage only a respectable seventh to Pinatubo in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot but fairly bolted up in a Naas maiden last week. He could be improving quickly and may represent better value than Charlie Appleby’s course winner King’s Command.
KYNREN (3.30) deserves to pocket a big handicap and he lines up with an obvious shout in the bet365 Bunbury Cup. Although drawn on the disadvantaged side in the Royal Hunt Cup he did well to finish fifth and he ran a close second in the Victoria Cup at Ascot the previous month. Kynren won on his first visit to HQ two seasons ago and performed with credit (sixth) in last autumn’s Cambridgeshire Handicap. Last year’s winner Burnt Sugar gets the fast ground he requires for the first time this season and should go well.
This is one of York’s marquee Saturday fixtures and AFAAK (3.50), last month’s Royal Hunt Cup winner, can add another significant handicap scalp to his belt by landing the John Smith’s Diamond Jubilee Handicap. A stout stayer over a mile, Afaak should be able to last out the extra two furlongs on the Knavesmire where he has a course victory on his record. The Charlie Hills-trained five-year-old won on soft at Ascot but it was quick when he won here at the Dante fixture. Afaak, gelded over the winter, is worth chancing under his 5lb penalty, despite a potentially problematical wide draw.
WEEKENDER (2.40) was beaten narrowly by Marmelo here last June and should have the edge over Gold Mount in the John Smith’s Silver Cup. The son of Frankel returns from a short break following his Chelmsford City victory over Danehill Kodiac in May. Gold Mount sprung a 16-1 surprise when readily accounting for Raheen House here last month and should confirm the places on identical terms.
