Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Summer Romance in the Newmarket 14:05 and My Boy Sepoy 17:40 at York. Compare odds and bet.
Although she only beat three rivals on debut at Yarmouth, Summer Romance (2:05) created a very favourable impression and she can land the Listed Empress Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.
Charlie Appleby’s Kingman filly travelled with ease in behind the pacesetter and once angled out, the grey quickened up to score in style. The runner-up advertised the form by winning at Brighton on Tuesday and although she needs to prove herself on a sounder surface (she is certainly bred to appreciate it), she is taken to make it two from two.
Up at York, I’m looking forward to seeing another two-year-old, in the shape of impressive Nottingham winner, Al Aakif. William Haggas’ Acclamation colt is another who left a good impression with the manner of success on debut, but he is likely to be pretty short here and is taking on some unknown quantities.
The day’s second selections comes later on the card when My Boy Sepoy (5:40) is taken to land the concluding handicap for Stuart Williams and Dylan Hogan.
A winner at Sandown last month, the four-year-old didn’t enjoy the best of passages, yet still came home strongest to score, in the manner of a horse on an upward curve. The runner-up has since gone in off a 2lbs higher mark and with the prospect of further improvement to come over this new trip, he looks capable of defying a 5lbs rise.
Saturday’s selections:
2:05 Newmarket – Summer Romance; 5/4 betvictor
5:40 York – My Boy Sepoy; 4/1 betvictor
