Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Brewin’upastorm 2.25 and Lord Yeats 6.20 both at Aintree. Compare odds and bet.
Fourth in the Ballymore at Cheltenham Brewin’upastorm (2:25) is fancied to land the Mersey Novices’ Hurdle at Aintree on Saturday.
He might have only won once from four starts over hurdles, but he travelled powerfully last time and the slightly shorter trip around a sharper track will suit. Hopefully, he is ridden closer to the pace on this occasion and despite probably wanting slightly better ground, he can land the first grade 1 on Grand National day.
The concluding handicap hurdle sees Lord Yeats (6:20) enter handicap company on a potentially lenient mark after a low-key start to his hurdles career. Formerly a smart performer on the Flat, the six-year-old was actually dropped 6lbs after finishing runner-up at Kelso and he has since won a weak race in a canter at Kelso.
Testing ground won’t pose any problems and given his ability on the level, the track at Aintree might well suit. He will need to jump a little more fluently here, but might appreciate being buried in a big field and he has a good conditional on his back in the shape of Tommy Dowson.
