Paul Ferguson two selections for us on Saturday; Evoi Special in the 2:05 at Kempton and Ms Parfois in the Uttoxeter 3:35.
Aidan Coleman enjoyed a fine day on Thursday when winning the Stayers’ Hurdle aboard Paisley Park, and he can win this afternoon’s Midlands Grand National on Ms Parfois (3:35).
This time last year, Anthony Honeyball’s mare was finishing runner-up in the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival and she has been lightly raced since. Only sixth in the Ladbrokes Trophy, the Honeyball stable is in much better order now and that Newbury form was advertised earlier in the week when Beware The Bear (4th) won the Ultima.
Soft ground and a marathon trip is what this eight-year-old is all about and conditions should be right up her street, on her first start in 105 days. A mark of 146 certainly looks one from which she can land a big prize.
Down at Kempton Envoi Special (2:05) is fancied to land the novices’ handicap chase for Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden.
Runner-up to Kalashnikov on his British debut, he caught the eye in behind Glen Forsa in a hugely competitive contest at this course on Boxing Day. The drop back in trip should suit and given how that form has worked out since, he looks worth siding with off a 2lbs lower mark.
Saturday’s selections:
2:05 Kempton – Envoi Special; 7/2 bet365
3:35 Uttoxeter – Ms Parfois; 7/1 William Hill
