Paul Ferguson two selections for us on Saturday; Silver Forever in the Sandown 3.00 and Ebony Jewel in the 5.35 at Ayr.
The ground could be quite testing at Sandown today and that will play to the strengths of Silver Forever (3:00) who has won twice already in bumpers and can land the Listed event for the in-form Paul Nicholls.
Beaten into third in this grade under quicker conditions at Huntingdon, she bounced back under a penalty at Ascot last time and, although she faces a clutch of nice prospects (the Harry Fry-trained pair both impressed me when winning), conditions will be very much in her favour here.
Both the EBF Final and Imperial Cup – in which Extra Mag is a horse I like – could become real tests in the ground, so I’m heading up to Ayr for the day’s second selection. Sticking in the bumper division, Ebony Jewel (5:35) can make a winning debut for the Nick Alexander stable.
Runner-up to a subsequent winner at Haydock on debut, the son of Westerner subsequently changed hands for £70,000 and he looked a sure-fire future winner. The ground was testing at Haydock, so if the rain arrives at Ayr, it certainly won’t inconvenience him and he sets a decent standard.
Saturday’s selections:
3:00 Sandown – Silver Forever; 9/4 betvictor
5:35 Ayr – Ebony Jewel; 9/4 William Hill
