Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Down the Highway (2.55 Haydock) and Waiting Patiently (3.55 Ascot). . Compare odds and bet.
Ascot stages a bumper nine-race card on Saturday, where Waiting Patiently (3:55) is fancied to land a second successive Grade 1 Betfair Ascot Chase.
Ruth Jefferson’s stable-star has only been seen once since, when brought down (officially unseated) early on in the King George on Boxing Day, and he remains undefeated over fences when completing. He remains unexposed and he ought to be suited by the likely strong pace.
Haydock also stages a really competitive card and I like the chances of Emma Lavelle’s Down The Highway (2:55) in the Pertemps Qualifier.
Rated 133, he was sent off favourite for a Grade 2 novice hurdle following an impressive victory at Lingfield, on his debut for current connections. It was pleasing to see him leave that disappointing effort behind when fourth behind Lisnagar Oscar in what appeared a decent event at Chepstow last time (winner and third run in the Grade 2 novice later on the card, a race in which he also held an entry) and the step up in trip looks sure to suit.
He is a lot less exposed than many of his opponents here and, if he is to head to Cheltenham for the Albert Bartlett, he would need to be going close here off his current mark. Indeed, if he were to win here – or even go close – the Final of this series would also become an option.
Saturday’s selections:
2:55 Haydock: Down The Highway; 13/2 Ladbrokes
3:55 Ascot: Waiting Patiently; 7/4 bet365
