Ascot stages a really good card on Friday and it gets underway with a 2m5f maiden hurdle, in which GALLAHERS CROSS (12:45) is fancied to score for Nicky Henderson.
The trainer seems to be unleashing his better novice hurdlers now – saddled a nice winner at Newbury on Wednesday – and he ran a solid fourth on his debut for current connections, on this card 12 months ago.
The form of that Listed bumper has worked out extremely well and the six-year-old can get off the mark at the first time of asking over timber.
Later on the card VINNDICATION (2:30) is taken to maintain his unbeaten run, in the Grade 2 Noel Novices’ Chase.
A course winner over hurdles – when he beat the smart Champ – all of his races to date have come on right-handed tracks and, although more is required this afternoon, he is fancied to take the step up in grade in his stride.
