RATHER BE (2.25) has won on his seasonal debut for the past three years and is fancied to continue that sequence in the feature BetVictor Gold Cup at Cheltenham. Nicky Henderson’s gelding is 9lb better with Mister Whitaker for his head defeat at the Cheltenham Festival and Rather Be is just preferred to Baron Alco, fighting fit following a terrific comeback run at Chepstow.
SINGLEFARMPAYMENT (1.50) has plenty of form around Prestbury Park and ground conditions will be ideal. He found the track riding too testing (heavy) when fifth to Coo Star Sivola at the Festival in March but bounced back the following month when beaten a head by Another Hero back at Cheltenham over 3m 2f.
POINT OF PRINCIPLE (3.30) can reward an each-way interest in the 2m 5f handicap hurdle. Tim Vaughan has an improving five-year-old on his hands on the evidence of his excellent second in the Silver Trophy at Chepstow last month. Third horse Whatmore won with plenty in hand on Wednesday to give the form a timely boost.
At Lingfield, ADDEYBB (2.45) makes his first all-weather appearance in the Betway Churchill Stakes, a Listed contest over 1m 2f. Although outclassed behind Roaring Lion in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot last month, this year’s Lincoln Handicap winner will welcome the return to calmer waters.
GIFTED MASTER (3.15) showed blistering early speed to overcome a very wide draw to land last year’s running of the Betway Golden Rose Stakes. Hugo Palmer’s gelding again has the services of James Doyle.
