Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Young Rascal in the Newbury 2.20 and Chanceanotherfive in the 3.35 at Kelso.
A winner for this column here at Newbury last month, the lightly-raced Young Rascal (2:20) is taken to land the Group 3 St Simon Stakes, for William Haggas and Jim Crowley.
The Intello three-year-old had no problem with the soft ground when winning the Dubai Duty Free Legacy Cup Stakes and the slightly longer trip should be even more beneficial this afternoon.
Although the National Hunt focus will be very much on Cheltenham, I’m interested in Chanceanotherfive (3:35) on his handicap debut up at Kelso, for Keith Dalgleish.
The six-year-old was a decent bumper performer last term and though he has yet to set the world alight in three hurdles starts, he catches the eye off an opening mark of 103. He probably wants a bit further, but his bumper form would make him look potentially well treated and he appreciates good ground.
Saturday’s selection:
2:20 Newbury – Young Rascal; 7/4 betvictor
3:35 Kelso – Chanceanotherfive; 5/1 bet365
