Having shaped with considerable promise on debut at Newmarket last month Maqsad (2:30) is taken to get off the mark at Yarmouth this afternoon, in division two of the fillies’ novice stakes.
William Haggas’ daughter of Siyouni moved well when runner-up over seven furlongs and both the longer trip and slightly easier ground appear to be in her favour here. There are a couple of well-bred fillies who represent powerful connections in opposition, but she certainly sets a fair standard and appeals as the type to step forward on this second start.
I’ve got a couple of days off after today, but will return on Friday when Cheltenham’s season gets underway.
