Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Friday; Venedegar in the Sandown 15:25 and Sangarius 16:05 at Doncaster. Compare odds and bet.
The Weatherbys Global Stallions App Flying Scotsman Stakes looks a decent event this year, with a clutch of nice juveniles locking horns, but I was really taken with how Sangarius (4:05) quickened up at Newmarket last month.
Sir Michael Stoute’s Kingman colt really lengthened when asked to pick up by James Doyle and he won with a little more in hand than the official margin might suggest. The runner-up let the form down last week, but surely ran below that level at Ascot, and the form was earlier given a boost when fourth home Mordred scored at Chester.
Down at Sandown the novice stakes if effectively a maiden – with no winners lining up – and the most experienced horse in the field Venedegar (3:25) might be capable of getting off the mark on his fourth start.
Ed Dunlop’s Dubawi colt travelled well when finishing runner-up at Newmarket last time and, ridden with a little more restraint on slightly better ground, can see him go one better, despite the fact that his latest second hasn’t exactly worked out well.
Friday’s selections:
3:25 Sandown – Venedegar; 9/4 BetVictor
4:05 Doncaster – Sangarius; 8/11 Bet365
