After a below-par run in the Irish Derby Dee Ex Bee (3:00) showed a little more in the Grand Prix de Paris three weeks ago and the Derby runner-up can land this afternoon’s Gordon Stakes at Goodwood.
Mark Johnston has found a nice opportunity for his St Leger hopeful to get back on track here and, had it not been for that flop at the Curragh, he would have been much shorter. A course winner at this meeting last year, I thought he shaped with more promise last time and wasn’t beaten much further by Kew Gardens than he was as a two-year-old.
If he returns to his best, he will provide his trainer with another winner in what is turning out to be another fine Goodwood for the stable.
