Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Wednesday; Debuchet in the 17:10 and Peregrine Run 19:20 both at Galway. Compare odds and bet.
This evening’s Galway Plate looks as competitive as ever, but Peregrine Run (7:20) has long been a horse that I have thought capable of landing a nice handicap and conditions look right for a big run.
A strongly-run race on decent ground over this sort of trip is what the eight-year-old requires, he ran well in a Grade 3 novice chase at this meeting 12 months ago and had a spin on the Flat just a fortnight ago, presumably to put him spot on for this. He looks worthy of each-way support in a wide-open renewal.
A case could be made for several of these, but on a line through the selection Conrad Hastings is another to consider at a much bigger price. Again, his recent run should have tuned him up for this and he relishes decent ground.
Earlier on the card Debuchet (5:10) can win the opening maiden hurdle, for Margaret and Danny Mullins.
A very smart bumper performer the season before last, he failed to score in four attempts over hurdles last term, but he looked in need of the run on debut and then contested Grade 1s on his three subsequent starts. Ninth in the Supreme Novices’ at Cheltenham, the grey appeared to appreciate the longer trip at Punchestown, where he was still in front when coming down two out. Still only five, he has time on his side and could well get his career back on track with a win here.
