Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Sunday; Capeland in the Stratford 14:25. Compare odds and bet.
Runner-up at the same track on his chase debut recently Capeland (2:25) should appreciate the drop in trip and can go one better at Newton Abbot on Sunday.
Paul Nicholls’ six-year-old won a novice hurdle here back in October 2016, so clearly likes the course, and he travelled well in behind Sword Of Fate earlier in the month. He couldn’t get to Tom Lacey’s front-runner and Nick Scholfield will have to be sure to keep tabs on the Irish-raider Ornua here. Henry de Bromhead’s charge made all when scoring with ease at Wexford last month and will make a bold bid to follow up, on a track where front-runners can get away.
He has to concede 5lbs to Capeland, however, and the selection might just be able to take advantage of that, if travelling with the same zest as last time.
I’ve got a day off tomorrow, so my column will return on Tuesday.
Sunday’s selection:
2:25 Newton Abbot – Capeland; 9/4 Betfred
