Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Fair Mountain in the Market Rasen 14:05 and Quloob 14:25 at Newbury. Compare odds and bet.
After an encouraging return to action at Newmarket last month Quloob (2:25) looks to hold sound each-way claims in this afternoon’s JLT Cup at Newbury.
Owen Burrows’ four-year-old was most progressive last term and after looking like he was fading on his return, he ran on in eye-catching fashion. The step up to 2m ought to suit and he sports cheek pieces for the first time here. Burrows saddled an across-the-card double last Saturday and he looks to have a solid chance, with the good-to-firm ground not an issue.
Market leader Stratum is respected, as he came from off the pace to finish third in a competitive renewal of the Ascot Stakes last time (front two were ridden much closer to the pace). He wears a hood for the first time here and on a line through Dubawi Fifty, there isn’t much between the pair. At the prices, Quloob gets the each-way vote.
Dan and Harry Skelton have made a flying start to the 2018-19 National Hunt season and they can land the first big prize of the campaign, Market Rasen’s Summer Hurdle.
A Listed winner on the Flat in Germany Fair Mountain (2:05) has won his last two starts over hurdles in effortless fashion. A keen-going sort, today’s bigger field and strong pace are likely to bring out further improvement and he could be well treated on an opening mark of 134. His jumping needs to improve, but he looks ahead of his mark.
Saturday’s selections:
2:05 Market Rasen – Fair Mountain; 4/1 BetVictor
2:25 Newbury – Quloob; 7/1 Ladbrokes
