Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Friday; Just Wonderful in the 14:30 and Delano Roosevelt 15:05 both at Royal Ascot. Compare odds and bet.
Aidan O’Brien runs two nice fillies in the opening Albany Stakes on Friday and Just Wonderful (2:30) gets the vote, under Ryan Moore.
A well-bred daughter of Dansili, she made a winning debut at the Curragh last month and would have won by further had she had something else to race against on the far rail. She impressed with how she burst clear that day and the form has worked out well, with the runner-up bolting up next time and the third – another O’Brien filly, Gossamer Wings – winning next time before finishing a narrow second in the Queen Mary.
She has been drawn down the middle, so Moore will have a choice as to which way to track the pace and if she steps forward as many of the stable’s runners do from debut, she can progress past stable-companion Fairyland and Mark Johnston’s Main Edition, who sets the standard. It looks a fairly strong renewal.
Moore and O’Brien can double up in the King Edward VII Stakes with Delano Roosevelt (3:05) who boasts a similar profile to the stable’s Queen’s Vase winner Kew Gardens.
Sixth in the Derby last time, he had earlier stayed on strongly in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial and going back to last year’s form, he chased home stable-mate and 2,000 Guineas winner Saxon Warrior in the Beresford Stakes. This doesn’t look the strongest of renewals in all honesty and his Epsom form is the best on offer.
Friday’s selections:
2:30 Royal Ascot – Just Wonderful; 9/4 Bet365
3:05 Royal Ascot – Delano Roosevelt; 3/1 Ladbrokes
