Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Tuesday; Rhododendron in the 14:30 and Dubawi Fifty 17:00 both at Ascot. Compare odds and bet.
The winner of the Newbury’s Lockinge Stakes on her reappearance Rhododendron (2:30) can get the Royal meeting off to the best possible start for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore.
The Galileo filly only had a short-head to spare over Lightning Spear at the line, but was forced to race alone down the middle of the track in the closing stages and given more company, I think she would have been more convincing.
Conditions look in her favour this afternoon and with Benbatl perhaps better over a shade further, I think she is very much the one to beat in the opening Queen Anne Stakes.
Later on the card Dubawi Fifty (5:00) looks worthy of each-way support in the ultra-competitive Ascot Stakes. Fourth off the same mark in the Chester Cup last month, he was ridden aggressively that day and a more patient ride should see him last home over this marathon trip. He also finished fourth in last year’s Cesarewitch, so we know he copes with these big-field staying handicaps, and he can go well at rewarding odds (16-1 at the time of writing).
Tuesday’s selections:
2:30 Royal Ascot – Rhododendron; 3/1 William Hill
5:00 Royal Ascot – Dubawi Fifty; 16/1 Paddy Power
