Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Reverend Jacobs in the Musselburgh 13:55 and Cause Toujours 19:05 at Stratford. Compare odds and bet.
A winner at York last month, an 8lb rise might not be enough to prevent Reverend Jacobs (1:55) from landing the opening contest at Musselburgh this afternoon.
William Haggas’ four-year-old dictated matters on the Knavesmire, but looks a progressive type who has plenty more to offer and he is preferred to Western Duke, who looks the obvious main danger.
Down at Newmarket, I will be interested to see how Quloob fares in the 1m6f handicap, as he also appeals as a four-year-old that could win a nice prize this summer. This is his first start since last August, however, and he faces some in-form and race-fit rivals, so it will be worth checking the market ahead of his return.
The day’s second selection, therefore, goes the way of Cause Toujours (7:05) on his handicap debut at Stratford.
The one-time Champion Bumper favourite made a winning start for Ian Williams in a small race at Kempton last month and an opening mark of 121 might well underestimate him. He wears a first-time hood this evening and he looks to have plenty in his favour.
Saturday’s selections:
1:55 Musselburgh – Reverend Jacobs; 10/11 Ladbrokes
7:05 Stratford – Cause Toujours; 9/4 Bet365
