Yet to really deliver on the promise of last season’s novice hurdle form Skipthecuddles (4:10) is of interest at Market Rasen on Sunday, under top-weight in the staying handicap hurdle.
Graeme McPherson’s seven-year-old was contesting the Neptune this time last year and began this season as the type of horse to do well in 3m handicaps. At his best on soft ground, he went well for a long way on his reappearance (as he did last time) before looking a little awkward around the tight bends at Southwell. Since then I have thought he might be worth a chance racing on a right-handed track and he gets that here, while the likely soft ground is also in his favour.
He clearly needs to improve on what he has shown so far this season, but he remains a horse of interest and it wouldn’t be a huge shock if he stepped forward here.
