Yet to get off the mark over fences Coo Star Sivola (4:15) can defy top weight at Exeter on Friday, with the step up in trip and drop in class in his favour.
Nick Williams’ six-year-old finished fourth in a deeper race at Cheltenham last month and, off the same mark (some 3lbs lower than his Cheltenham Festival fourth in the Martin Pipe last March), he makes plenty of appeal.
His earlier novice form at Cheltenham reads quite well and he has looked in need of the step back up in distance on his last couple of outings. Soft ground isn’t a concern and the stable remain in decent form, so everything looks in place for a big run. This offers the selection the best opportunity yet to open his account over fences, in my opinion.
