Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Saturday; Lalor in the Newbury 15:35. Compare odds and bet.
Newbury stages a cracking card this afternoon, with the return to action of Altior in the Game Spirit – where he meets Politologue – an obvious highlight.
The Betfair Hurdle looks as fiercely competitive as ever, but at the prices (14-1 with the sponsors overnight who are paying 6 places) Lalor (3:35) is worthy of each-way support.
The six-year-old boasts a similar profile to that of last year’s winner Ballyandy, in that he was a very smart bumper horse – won Aintree’s Grade 2 – and arrives here as a maiden over hurdles. His three runs to date haven’t been without promise, however, and I think the way this race will be run will really suit his style of racing. A strong traveller, he will appreciate being buried in a big field and should also relish the long home straight.
He has had a wind-op since his last start and won’t mind what the weather does, as he seems versatile in terms of ground. Daryl Jacob has been in fine form this past week, so everything looks in place for a bold showing and what could be a very poignant success.
Be sure to pay close attention to the concluding bumper, which brings together several really exciting young prospects. Both Brewin’upastorm and Good Boy Bobby have looked highly promising to date, but the same can be said of several of these and this is likely to throw up several future winners.
Saturday’s selection:
3:35 Newbury : Lalor; 14/1 Paddy Power
