Fourth in the Lanzarote Hurdle last month Topofthegame (3:00) is fancied to improve as he goes up in trip in this afternoon’s Betfred Heroes Handicap Hurdle.
The stiffer finish at Sandown and today’s likely softer ground are also in favour of the imposing six-year-old and, despite a 3lbs rise in the handicap, I am anticipating a bold show.
Earlier in the day, I expect Yorkhill (1:45) to land the Coral Dublin Chase on day one of the inaugural Dublin Festival Racing. The eight-year-old was too keen and simply didn’t stay on his reappearance over Christmas and I have long been of the opinion that he had the pace to win over the minimum trip as a chaser. A Tolworth Hurdle winner as a novice hurdler, he can put down a marker for the Queen Mother Champion Chase this afternoon.
