Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Kalashnikov in the Sandown 14:25 and Good Boy Bobby 15:55 at Chepstow. Compare odds and bet.
Unbeaten in three career starts to date Kalashnikov (2:25) is taken to maintain his 100% record in this afternoon’s Grade 1 Tolworth Novices’ Hurdle at Sandown.
The winner of novice hurdles at Wetherby and Doncaster, Amy Murphy’s five-year-old needs to take another step forward here, but he looks full of potential and, though the ground is a concern, the stiff finish is likely to suit.
The Warren Greatrex-trained Western Ryder is the form horse and deserves to head the market – especially with his yard in form and having proven himself on testing ground – but at the prices I’m prepared to side with Kalashnikov, who has created a good impression on me on all three starts.
Carrying a penalty to success in a bumper isn’t always easy, but Good Boy Bobby (3:55) looks up to the task at Chepstow.
A winner over course-and-distance in November, he looked a really promising type that day, despite racing keenly in the early part of the race. Presumably that is why he wears the hood this afternoon and, with the form working out reasonably well from that debut (fourth has won since), he looks very much the one to beat.
Saturday’s selections:
2:25 Sandown – Kalashnikov; 2/1 bet365
3:55 Chepstow – Good Boy Bobby; 11/8 Coral
