Fergie’s Boxing Day selections

Paul Ferguson has four selections for us on Boxing Day at Huntingdon, Leopardstown and Kempton. Compare odds and bet.

As ever, Kempton stages a fantastic card on Boxing Day and, provided the ground doesn’t turn any worse than good-to-soft, Alan King’s mare Mia’s Storm (1:55) is fancied to land the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase.

Two from two over fences to date, she travels sweetly and has jumped really well to date, so the track ought to prove to her liking. The form of her Chepstow success on debut has worked out really well and, in receipt of 7lbs from her six rivals, she is the one they all have to beat, despite the rise in grade. She was available at 11-4 at the time of writing.

At Huntingdon Boreham Bill (12:10) is fancied to build on a promising fourth at Newbury (tired late on) and land the extended 2m3f novices’ hurdle for Ben Pauling and Tom Bellamy.

That Newbury race looked a decent event – the fifth has since dead-heated at Chepstow – and, in receipt of weight from his main market rivals, he looks the one to beat.

Over in Ireland Debuchet (12:15) can make a winning debut over hurdles in the opener at Leopardstown, for Mags and Danny Mullins. Runner-up in the Champion Bumper in March, the grey was twice a winner in that sphere and rates an exciting prospect, despite having met with a setback that ended in him requiring surgery in the early part of the season.

Later on the card Arkle favourite Footpad (2:20) is fancied to have too much speed for the more experienced Death Duty in what looks a fascinating clash in the Grade 1 Racing Post Novice Chase.

Willie Mullins’ high-class hurdler boasts some smart form around this track over the smaller obstacles and made a blistering start to his chasing career, when jumping beautifully to score at Navan. A similar round of fencing ought to be good enough here.

Boxing Day selections:
12:10 Huntingdon – Boreham Bill;
12:15 Leopardstown – Debuchet;
1:55 Kempton – Mia’s Storm;
2:20 Leopardstown – Footpad;
