Ascot stages a cracking card this afternoon, where CLAIMANTAKINFORGAN (1:55) is fancied to land a hot renewal of the Grade 2 Kennel Gate Novices’ Hurdle.
Nicky Henderson’s five-year-old was a very smart bumper performer last term and beat a decent sort (won since) on his hurdles debut at Newbury.
He has the least experience in terms of hurdling of today’s sextet and he takes on a couple of equally exciting types, but I was taken with how he won on debut and think he looks capable of taking the rise in grade in his stride.
He did disappoint in the bumper on this card last, which is a slight concern, but he has been thoroughly progressive otherwise. Incidentally, it can pay to watch today’s concluding bumper with the future in mind, as it looks a very deep race indeed.
