Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Rhaegar in the Chepstow 12:30 and Highland Lodge 13:30 at Aintree. Compare odds and bet.
This afternoon’s Becher Chase looks a strong renewal and, based on his last two starts Blaklion is very much a worthy favourite and the one to beat. However, Highland Lodge (1:30) is right at home on deep ground and conditions look in his favour.
A winner of the race two years ago and runner-up last year, Jimmy Moffatt’s stable star goes really well fresh and, at double-figure odds (10-1 at the time of writing), he represents a viable each-way alternative to the market leader.
Down at Chepstow Rhaegar (12:30) is the one to beat in the opening conditional jockeys’ novices’ hurdle. Kim Bailey’s six-year-old stayed on strongly to win a bumper at Warwick – suggesting he will need a longer trip such as this over hurdles – and shaped well behind White Moon on his hurdles debut at Exeter. He ought to handle the testing ground.
Saturday’s selections:
12:30 Chepstow – Rhaegar; 11/10 Ladbrokes
1:30 Aintree – Highland Lodge (each-way); 9/1 William Hill
