Paul Ferguson two selections from Carlisle for us on Sunday; Cadeyrn at 12:55 and Just Minded at 1:30. Compare odds and bet.
The opening novices’ hurdle from Carlisle looks pretty deep this afternoon so should be a race worth following, in which I want to be with Cadeyrn (12:55) for Michael Scudamore and Robbie Dunne.
The five-year-old caught my eye in the prelims before making an encouraging debut at Haydock and the winning Irish pointer duly got off the mark next time, at Chepstow over Christmas. Slightly disappointing at Towcester on his final start, he will relish the stamina test this afternoon, going up in trip on soft ground, and he looks capable of going well. There is a worry about the form of the stable, however, as they haven’t had a winner in a while.
In the very next race Just Minded (1:30) is fancied to make a winning chase debut for Sue Smith, Trevor Hemmings and Danny Cook.
The trio struck at Aintree last Sunday when Vintage Clouds was successful and this six-year-old looks every inch as a chaser in waiting. The Kayf Tara gelding did well over hurdles last term, but ought to flourish now he goes chasing and begins his new career on a fair looking mark (122).
Smith often likes to start her better chasing prospects here at Carlisle and, while he might ideally want some slightly better ground, he is a horse that I am excited about in the north.
