Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Saturday; Singlefarmpayment in the Cheltenham 14:00. Compare odds and bet.
Regular readers of my column will know that Singlefarmpayment (2:00) is a horse I followed closely last season, painfully here at Cheltenham in January (brought down) and even more so at the festival, when he was narrowly beaten in the Ultima Handicap Chase.
Just 4lbs higher, I will be disappointed if he can’t recoup losses at some stage this season and today’s opener looks an ideal starting point. Firstly, it doesn’t look as strong a contest as the one in which he travelled through so sweetly in March and his course form is strong, winning a good ground novice chase at the December meeting, whilst he also won a handicap hurdle at the track when trained by Tom Lacey.
The Tom George stable have yet to hit top form, but there have been signs of late that he is ready to turn the corner, with Kk Lexion running really well yesterday, and the selection can get his season off to the best possible start.
Elsewhere on the card, I would expect Double Ws to strip fitter following his recent reappearance, while Thomas Campbell ought to relish the ground in the Pertemps Qualifier. He stayed on in eye-catching fashion behind stable-mate Rather Be at Aintree and looks on a fair mark. The trip is a minor concern for me, otherwise he looks to hold sound claims.
There are a clutch of nice novices on show up at Kelso, but in terms of betting propositions, it is just Singlefarmpayment for today (trading at 4-1 overnight).
