CRYSTAL OCEAN (3:00) is fancied to reverse Royal Ascot form with Khalidi and land this afternoon’s Qatar Gordon Stakes at Goodwood.
The Sea The Stars colt handled good-to-soft ground at York earlier in the season, so it is hoped conditions won’t prove an inconvenience.
He was keen at Ascot and, racing wide throughout, he chased down the pace at the wrong time, forcing him even wider around the home bend. Ridden with a shade more restraint today, he can provide Sir Michael Stoute with a third Gordon Stakes in four years and a fifth since 2008.
At Newmarket MOJITO (3:50) is fancied to defy a 5lb rise and follow up last month’s Sandown success.
William Haggas’ keen-going Requinto colt readily got the job done last time and the third advertised the form by winning Doncaster next time.
The one concern is the ground, but he appeared to handle soft on his penultimate start. Over this trip, he should get away with it even if the ground deteriorates, and he looks progressive.
