Having finished runner-up in a handicap off 115 last time, Top Ofthe Ra sets the standard in the maiden hurdle at Ballinrobe this evening.
He’s nine now and had 10 attempts over hurdles without winning, so at the prices a chance is taken on the less-exposed LICKLIGHTER (6:10).
He was travelling really well when falling two out in a similar contest over course-and-distance almost a year ago and, while the lay off is a concern, he hails from an in-form stable; Patrick Kelly has run four horses in the past fortnight, three of which were successful.
A good ground bumper winner at Killarney last July, the six-year-old ran in a decent Point-to-Point as a four-year-old and the market should prove a good guide. He was available at 3-1 at the time of writing.
