Paul Ferguson two selections for us on Saturday; Seamour in the 3.30 at Newcastle and Whiteout in the 6.00 at The Curragh.
Sixth in 2015 and runner-up last year Seamour (3:30) is fancied to make it third time lucky in this afternoon’s Stobart Rail Northumberland Plate, for trainer Brian Ellison.
The draw could have been a shade kinder – handed stall 11 – but he finished runner-up from stall 12 last year, when he looked all over the winner when bursting clear. He has a 4lb higher mark to overcome this year, but his prep run at York was much more encouraging than last year’s reappearance and I’m not sure today’s contest looks as deep as last year’s race. A big run looks on the cards.
Another stayer to back this afternoon is Whiteout (6:00) in the concluding 2m-handicap at the Curragh.
Willie Mullins’ mare bolted up over course-and-distance last month and an 11lbs rise might not be enough to prevent her from following up. The trainer showed how adept he is with these dual-purpose performers when Thomas Hobson ran out an impressive winner of the Ascot Stakes last week.
Saturday’s selections:

6:00 Curragh: Whiteout; 10/3 betvictor
