Paul Ferguson has one selection for us on Saturday; Lord Yeats (NR) in the Newmarket 15:40. Compare odds and bet.
If the forecast rain materialised overnight, the ground might well be on the easy side at Newmarket this afternoon and that will enhance the claims of Lord Yeats (3:40) (NR) in the 1m6f John Sunley Memorial Handicap.
A winner over 1m4f at York last month, the four-year-old appears to have improved for his winter break and he dictated matters under a fine ride from Paul Mulrennan. An 11lb rise and a stronger looking race won’t make life easy, but he does have the profile of a progressive young stayer and he ought to improve again for going up in trip.
Fran Berry takes over in the saddle this afternoon and a big run looks on the card. Hopefully, all 16 horses take their chance for each-way purposes, in what looks a competitive affair.
Elsewhere it isn’t the most inspiring of Saturday’s in all honesty, although I am looking forward to seeing Lieutenant Gruber in the opening novices’ hurdle at Stratford. He will, no doubt, be sent off pretty short indeed, but he won as he liked three weeks ago and he is a promising sort for the time of year – he is one to watch with the future in mind.
Saturday’s selection:
3:40 Newmarket: Lord Yeats (NR); 8/1 William Hill
