Paul Ferguson two selections for us on Saturday; Desert Dream in the Musselburgh 4:00 and Shraaoh in the Epsom 5:15. Compare odds and bet.
Sir Michael Stoute might not have a runner in this afternoon’s Derby, but he is responsible for Shraaoh (5:15) in the penultimate race on the card and it will be disappointing if he can’t land a valuable handicap off his current mark.
The four-year-old was an easy maiden winner at Newcastle last May and, after he suffered a troubled passage in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot, he bounced back to run really well at Glorious Goodwood (runner-up to Dal Harraild who won at York last week) and in the Melrose.
Open to plenty of improvement from three to four, a mark of 93 could still underestimate this horse, who could easily end up pattern class.
The market looks just about right in the Derby and I’m finding it hard to split Cliffs Of Moher and Cracksman. Both are open to considerable improvement after just one run this term.
However, the day’s other selection comes from up at Musselburgh, where Desert Dream (4:00) is fancied to provide Stoute with an across-the-card double.
Beautifully bred, the Oasis Dream colt shed his maiden tag at the third time of asking last month and the fifth has come out to win since. An opening mark of 81 seems fair and, though he might want a little further in time, he looks more than capable of winning a handicap over a mile at this stage.
