Paul Ferguson has three selections for us on Saturday; Call To Order in the Haydock 2.40, Persian Delight in the Wincanton 3.20 and The Worlds End in the Haydock 3.50. Compare odds and bet.
Absent since winning at Cheltenham in December Call To Order (2:40) can land Haydock’s Pertemps Qualifier and give himself a chance of making the cut for the Final at next month’s Cheltenham Festival.
A progressive novice, a mark of 127 still looks reasonable for this well-bred seven-year-old, Killian Moore was aboard when third at the Open meeting on his penultimate start and conditions should suit here.
Later on the card The Worlds End (3:50) is another staying novice hurdler on an upward curve, winning his last two and both pieces of form have been franked since (both runner-ups have won this month).
The step up in trip should suit Tom George’s six-year-old (holds an entry in the Albert Bartlett at Cheltenham) and, though it won’t be easy going up in grade under a 7lb penalty, he is taken to complete the hat-trick.
On a line through both horses Persian Delight (3:20) can get off the mark over hurdles in the extended 2m5f handicap at Wincanton.
Paul Nicholls’ former smart bumper performer finished in front of Call To Order when runner-up on his hurdles debut and appeared to perform slightly below par when third to The Worlds End over Christmas.
An opening mark of 123 look lenient and, if able to bounce back to that maiden hurdle form in October, he has very sound claims. The longer trip shouldn’t be a problem around here and he won his bumper on soft ground.
