Paul Ferguson has two selections for us on Saturday; Singlefarmpayment 12:35 Cheltenham and Asum in the 12:50 at Doncaster. Compare odds and bet.
Cheltenham stages an absolutely brilliant nine-race card this afternoon, where Singlefarmpayment (12:35) looks one to back each-way, in the Timeform Novices’ Handicap Chase.
Tom George’s seven-year-old looks on an upward curve, finishing a sound second in a warm event (worked out reasonably well since) at Ascot before winning here over 3m1½f last month. The drop in trip is a slight concern, but he travels well through his races so should cope with it, especially on his favoured decent ground. He was trading at 13-2 at the time of writing
Up at Doncaster Asum (12:50) looks on a fair mark in the opening handicap hurdle (115) and is another that can be backed each-way, in a wide-open affair (opened up 4-1 with a couple of firms).
Well-bred, he met trouble in running when beaten in a Warwick bumper and appeared to lack tactical speed when beaten at the same track on his hurdles bow. He got off the mark at Taunton last time and, while that form isn’t especially strong, the six-year-old can be expected to improve now he goes up in trip. The one concern is that some of Dan Skelton’s horses seem to be performing below-par, but he makes plenty of appeal off that opening mark. The drier the ground, the better his chance, so any overnight rain would be an inconvenience.
